Albert "Buck" Nelson Obituary (1949

Albert George "Buck" Nelson, 67, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 25, 2017, in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Courtenay, North Dakota. Buck was born September 21, 1949, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to George Jr. and Rita (Siebert) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Courtenay, North Dakota, where he graduated from high school in 1967. He received a degree in Political Science in 1972, a Psychology Degree in 1974, and a Master's Degree in Counseling in 1977, all from UND in Grand Forks, North Dakota. From 1967 to 1977, he worked the summers for Wold Engineering. From 1978 until 2007 he worked at the Youth Correctional Center, Mandan. He worked as a life center coach for the Bismarck YMCA from August 2007 to September 2008. Buck enjoyed many sports-including, softball, baseball, weight lifting, running, and especially tennis. He competed in body building contests in the early 90's, and in many 10K races. He was a member of the North Dakota State Employees Association, and was a Licensed Social Worker. He is survived by his mother, Rita Nelson, Jamestown; and brother-in-law, Wayne Strand, Minot; Sheryl Birdsall and many other cousins. Buck was preceded in death by his father, George; sister, Georgia Strand; aunts and uncles, Dolores (Leonard) Wanzek and Lorraine (Gary) Reeves; and cousin, Patrick Buchanan.
