Amy Eldora Kinnischtzke Obituary (1924

Amy Eldora Kinnischtzke, 94, Bismarck, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, January 25, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Dr. Leanne Simmons officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation is 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Dawise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Eldora was born May 8, 1924, in rural Stanton, North Dakota, to Jorgen and Susie (Fowler) Lunde. She attended rural school through grade eight and graduated from Hazen High School in 1943. After graduation, the family moved to Washington state where her father worked in the shipyards during WWII and she worked for Pacific Bell Telephone in Vancouver. WA. The family returned to Bismarck after the war. While in Bismarck she worked at NW Bell Telephone and JCPenney, Sears, and Buttrey's department stores. On June 22, 1947, she married Walter Kinnischtzke at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Eldora and Walt were happily married for 51 years before his passing in 1999. They enjoyed traveling by car, including trips to Washington, California, and even Alaska. They visited many other states across the U.S. including Hawaii. When at home they enjoyed spending time in the backyard watching birds and tending to their plants and flowers. Eldora flourished while hosting family gatherings, barbeques, and picnics. She loved to bake especially for her family, children, and grandchildren. She was willing to cater to everyone by making their favorite recipes, including chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookie cutouts, angel food cake, lemon bars, seven-layer bars, and even salmon loaf. She was always taking care of others. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck-teaching Sunday school, coordinating wedding receptions and funeral luncheons, was on the board of Deacons, worked in the kitchen for the youth program, and was involved with the Presbyterian Women's Circle. She was also a Scout Leader, a member of P.E.O. Chapter AP, active in the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and RSVP. In order to stay busy after Walt's passing, she began volunteering with the Medcenter One Auxiliary. From 1999 to 2009 she worked primarily delivering flowers to patients and employees at Medcenter One. She also spent time helping in the radiology department and in the mailroom sorting and distributing mail for physicians and patients. She truly enjoyed volunteer work and all the friendships she made along the way. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Kathy, and Bob and Cathy, all of Bismarck; one daughter, Karen Morrow, Eden Prairie, Minnesota; one sister, Doris Flurer, Bismarck; grandchildren, Randy Kinnischtzke, Susie Entzel, Katie Morrow, and Amy Jo Kinnischtzke; two nieces, Nancy and Laura; and three nephews, Kenny, Jerry, and Gene. Eldora was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Gladys and Everett "Bud" Stephens and Dick Flurer; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim Russell and Bob and Madelyn Zutt. The family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
