Charles Allen Ferch

Charles A. "Chuck" Ferch, 72, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015. A private family service was held Thursday, May 21, 2015, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, with Rev. Scott Bauman officiating. Burial was in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Chuck was born November 17, 1942, in Rugby, North Dakota, to Carl and Alma (Holm) Ferch. He was raised and educated in Rugby and Minot, and graduated from Minot High School in 1961. After graduation, he served in the US Navy from June 1961 until November 1965, and was stationed in Hawaii and the Pacific. Following his discharge, he worked at the US Post Office in Minot and Bismarck. He earned an Associate's Degree from Bismarck Junior College and attended Mary College. On April 10, 1970, he married Arlene Vik in Bismarck, and together they raised their daughter, Michele. Chuck worked at the Northern Great Plains Research Center as a carpenter for 18 years.

Chuck was a talented woodworker and created many beautiful things-he was a perfectionist in everything he did. He enjoyed varmint hunting, spending hours reloading, and loved target shooting at the rifle range with family. Chuck especially loved to play Trivia with the family. We all knew that every so often we needed to get together for what was called his "Trivia Fix."

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Arlene; one daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Aaron Pfliger, Mandan; three sons, Michael (Leslie) Ferch, Stephen Ferch, and David (Tina) Ferch, all of Arizona; one sister, Ann Ongstad, Lewiston, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert (Fern) Ferch; and nephew, Marlin Ongstad.
