Delphine Winona Elk Obituary (1952 - 2012)

Delphine Winona Elk, 60, Fort Yates, North Dakota, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at Sanford off Collins, Mandan. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 7, 2013, in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball, with Rev. Norman Blue Coat and Rev. Mike Kills Pretty Enemy officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 1-4:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2013, with a prayer service at 1:00 PM at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service in the Youth Activity Center. Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery, Cannon Ball. Delphine was born October 5, 1952, to Noah and Charlotte (Iron Road) Uses Arrow at Cannon Ball, where she was raised and educated. She also attended Solen and Fort Yates High Schools. On January 16, 1970, she married Wilson Thomas Elk in Fort Yates. Delphine enjoyed going to powwows, quilting and visiting and cooking for friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband, Wilson; three daughters, Bernadette Elk, Bismarck, Margaret (Matt) Little, Cannon Ball, and Odette Elk, Fort Yates; three sons, Justus (Yvette) Elk, Jerren (Shauna) Elk, and Daniel (Kacey) Elk, all of Fort Yates; one sister, Jeanette (Emerson) Red Stone, Cannon Ball, and one brother, Lyle (Carol) Uses Arrow, Cannon Ball; two half brothers, Delvin (Brenda) Uses Arrow, Sisseton, South Dakota, and Noah Uses Arrow Jr., Cannon Ball; two aunts, Christine Alkire and Joanne Standing Bear; ten grandchildren, Naaman Elk, Tayla Cain, Marlow Red Tomahawk Jr., Cole Red Tomahawk, Katie Elk, Johnston Elk, Quintin Elk, Ethan Buckley, and Jeralie Elk. Delphine was preceded in death by two sons, Wilson Elk Jr. and Gerald Bede Elk; her parents, Noah and Charlotte (Iron Road) Uses Arrow; brothers, Gerald and Everette Uses Arrow; sisters, Eloise Silk and Marva Frisbee and one grandson.
