Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 2, 2024, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery after the luncheon following services. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Elmer was born July 31, 1945, in Milbank, South Dakota to Bernholdt Robert-Benjamin and Gladys Ruth (Block) Bohn. He was raised and educated in Milbank and Corona, South Dakota.
Elmer had a wide variety of jobs throughout his life including farmhand/maintenance worker, factory worker, over-the-road truck driver, basic electrician, and most recently (for 30 years) a press brake operator for Mid America Steel until his retirement in 2009. He was basically a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.
However, his most important jobs were loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, reading, woodworking, and inventing things to make common issues simpler. Recently he really enjoyed weekly “game nights” with his family. The family would especially like to acknowledge Jeff and Denise Christensen, who spent a lot of time conversing, care-taking and just overall being great friends. Elmer’s sense of humor, knowledge of the everyday world and kindness will be forever missed. We love you, Elmer! Rest in Peace.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elaine (Blum). His children Julie (Ed) Proctor, Anthony “Tony” (Michelle) Bohn, Michelle (Ken) Hutchings, and Carl Bohn. His grandchildren Sarah, Shawna (Aaron), Jamie, Tyler, Jessie, Sara, Kati, Sydney, Isaiah, Robert, Hadley, Haven, and Kenneth “Kenny”. His great-grandchildren Aerith, Samuel, Annabelle, and Grayson. His brother Norman and sister LaVon, sisters-in-law Vivian, Lora, and EllaMae, brothers-in-law Larry, Ken, and Dave. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his dog Dixie.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Bernholdt and Gladys; parents-in-law Carl and Dorothy; brothers-in-law Dennis “Butch” and John Blum; twin grandsons Adrian and Aspen; and dogs Spunky, Buster, Buddy, and Bear.
