Emma Plenty Chief Obituary (1950 - 2017)

Emma Plenty Chief, 67 of Mandan, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, December 26th, 2017 at her home. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at the DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, North Dakota, with a short prayer service to follow. Emma was born June 30th, 1950, at Elbowoods, North Dakota, to Ervin and Myrtle (Fool Bear) Plenty Chief, Sr. She was raised and educated in North and South Dakota. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD; soon after she moved to Burbank, California where she graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the Tony Taylor School of Business. Emma married Dane Ginger while in California. They eventually moved to Pennsylvania where she worked at the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center for many years. Emma was a foster parent for over 16 years, she enjoyed traveling, crafting, sewing, making shawls and spending time with her family. Emma had a very special relationship with two grandsons, Ethan Stonefish and Kruz Running Hawk and two granddaughters Voshaun Red Bear and Joetta Windy Boy, there wasn't anything in the world that she wouldn't do to make sure that her family was happy. She is survived by her two sons, Micheal Ginger I and Kyle (Plenty Chief) Moon of Pittsburgh, PA; her two daughters Patricia Ecker of Tampa, Fl and Gillian Plenty Chief of Mandan, ND; three brothers, George Fool Bear Sr. and Ervin Plenty Chief Jr. of Cannon Ball, ND, and John Cottonwood of Westminster, CO; four sisters, Lucinda Mickey and Lillian Tall Bull of Montana, Alva Gabe of Fort Yates, ND and Amanda Pretty Bear of Hilliard, OH; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Leora Wise Spirit; brothers, Lance Plenty Chief, Alton, Michael, and Alan Cottonwood; two nieces, Eugenia and Mary Plenty Chief, two grandsons, Vance and Vincent Plenty Chief.
