Francine Danette Babicki Obituary (1969

Francine Danette Babicki (Feather Earring), 53, Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Fort Yates, ND, entered into the Spirit World, Monday, February 7, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a long battle with covid. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church, Fort Yates, ND, Monday, February 21, 2022, 11:00 a.m. with burial/interment to follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. A meal will follow at the AJ Agard Building following committal services. Francine Danette Feather Earring was born on February 5, 1969, in Fort Yates, ND to Francis and Catherine (DeCouteau) Feather Earring. Francine was raised as a little girl for a short time in Cannonball until her parents moved to Fort Yates. Francine and her baby sister Jana lost their parents at a very young age and were then raised by their aunt and uncle Red and Reva. Francine attended elementary school along with all her sisters at St. Bernard's Mission School in Fort Yates, thru the sixth grade, where she enjoyed being a member of the Youth Group and participating in activities. She would tell many stories about the nuns and all the mischief she would get into and laugh. She attended Jr high and high school at Standing Rock Schools, where she participated in many clubs, track and especially loved cheerleading for wrestling as well as boys' and girls' basketball. Francine graduated from High School in 1987 and later went on to attend college at UND with an interest in the field of Radiology because of her Uncle Byrons influence. Francine later attended United Tribes Technical College to study Nursing. Francine was a beautiful, extraordinarily strong minded, independent person. Once she had her mind made up, she was hard to tell otherwise. She moved to Michigan where she married Robert Babicki. She lived in Michigan before moving back to Fort Yates in 1994, to make her home and raise her children. In her spare time Francine enjoyed arts and crafts, doing cross word puzzles and spending time with her children. She loved glorified rice and snacking on farouche chocolates. She had a cat whom she called Marvolous Mavis. No matter where she traveled, she always kept in touch with her loved ones. Francine is survived by her children, Travis Luger, Bismarck, Ian Babicki, Michigan, Lynsi (Travis) Wright, Nashville, Tennessee, Kathryn (Chance Fredrickson)McLaughlin, North Carolina, Laney (Joey) Maheen, Colorado Springs, Mia Red Tomahawk, and Michael Red Tomahawk II, Colorado Springs; six grandchildren as well as her cat Mavis and dog Hammy; parents, Charles "Red" and Reva Gates; brothers, Scott (Sami) Gates, Steve (Robin) Gates, Shawn Gates Sr., Christopher Gates, Aaron Gates, and special brother Ronnie Blevins; sisters, Margaret (Milton Trosper, Jr.) Gates, Jana Feather Earring, Sonia (Brady) Brownotter, and Mary Martha Grant; one maternal aunt, Eva Martinez; paternal aunt, Ferol Comes Last; special nephew, Jayden Blevins; godchild, Emilee (Barret) Blevins-Taylor, uncles, Louis (Rose) DeCouteau, John DeCouteau and Byron Greybull; special cousins, Georgette DeCouteau, Roberta Brave Bull, William Brave Bull, Nathan Jr. (Kay) Shelltrack, Sheila (Ray) Martinez, and Xtal Silk; numerous nieces nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly. Francine was proceeded in death by her beautiful mother, Catherine DeCouteau, her father, Francis Feather Earring; maternal grandmother, Germaine Little Chief whom she called Grandma Papa, maternal grandfather, John DeCouteau; paternal grandparents, Tom (Edith) Greybull; maternal aunts, Bernadine, Margaret DeCouteau, Lonna DeCouteau and Janice Silk; paternal aunt, Colene Hawk and paternal uncles, Edgar Greybull and Gary Drum.
