Fredrick Ziemann Obituary (1938

Fredrick Erich Ziemann, 83, Mandan, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at a local hospital. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 17, 2022, at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Rev. Phil Leer officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be Friday, November 18, 2022, 9:00 AM, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Fredrick was born November 26, 1938, at Edgeley, ND, to Erich and Anna (Schober) Ziemann and was raised on a farm near Alfred, ND. He graduated from Gackle High School in 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, working in Aviation Supply (Logistics) from May 1956 to August 1965. His tours included time in Sicily, Japan, and Guam as well as stateside. His final posting was on the aircraft carrier USS America. He married Inez Mertz, at Alameda, CA, July 14, 1959, and they spent the next 63 years together. Fred was a great athlete through his high school and Navy days (and beyond), excelling in basketball, softball, and volleyball. While in the Navy he played in the service division of the national volleyball tournament. Fred became a mail carrier with the USPS and walked his route in Bismarck from 1966 until his retirement in 1992. His three sons were also in the military and between the four of them, they gave Uncle Sam, 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Inez; three sons, Steven (Andrea), Mansfield, TX, Douglas, Bronson, FL, and David (Roberta), Newport News, VA; six grandchildren, April (Wes), Christopher (Kelli), Jack (Kallie), Tess, Nicole (Adam), and Ryan; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua (Frankie), Colin, Ethan, Tristan (Angie), Jayson, Lucy, Heidi, Jake, Brody, Anastasia, Frederick, Abraham, and Edith; and one great great-grandchild, Everly. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Wilhelm; and two sisters, Louise Geinert and Helen Thom.
