Gary R. Schmidt

Gary R. Schmidt, 66, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014, after a 25 year battle with diabetes including eight years of dialysis. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, North Dakota. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. As per Gary's wishes, only his family and his close friends should attend. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Richardton, North Dakota at 1:30 PM, CST.

Gary was born January 27, 1948, at Bismarck, to Frank and Dorothy (Pierce) Schmidt. He was raised and educated in Richardton where he graduated from high school in 1965. He married Madonna Hulm in 1975 and had two daughters, Jackie and Tammy. Gary took over the family farm in 1980 and farmed until 2000 when he moved to Bismarck. Gary won the North Dakota Charolais Association Commercial Breeder Award in 1997. He owned and operated Schmidt Adjusters from 2000 until his retirement in 2013. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing, but especially spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Schmidt, Bismarck; two daughters, Jackie (Brian) Ressler, Bismarck, and Tammy (Justin) Sheldon, Washburn; Madonna Schmidt, Bismarck; one sister, Ginger (Larry) Schmidt, New Salem; two brothers, Don (Maureen), and Lee (Rosie), all of Fargo; four grandchildren, Jack, Maya, Zoey, and Ellie, and soon a new granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his father.
