He was raised and educated in Fort Yates, and graduated from Standing Rock High School in May 1980. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served from February 24, 1981 to February 23, 1984, and was honorably discharged. While in the Army, he kept in close touch with Karen Grey Bear by letters and by phone calls. They got married on December 3, 1984, and were happily married for 28 years. Jackson was employed at Standing Rock Head Start, Standing Rock High School, Early Childhood Tracking, Sitting Bull College, Class Construction, Simmons Construction, Dawson Construction, Flickertail Construction, Jim Luska Construction, Prairie Knights Casino, HIS Hospital, The Fire Department, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and was recently employed at the Club Diamond Z at the time of his death. Jackson always looked for work no matter what kind of job, to support his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching and playing with his grandchildren, especially his oldest grandchild, Austin. He called Austin "My Best Friend", and his other three grandchildren, Kaden, Kimberly, and Jazmyne. He always said all my babies. All the money he ever earned went to his grandchildren first. Most of all he really loved his three daughters, Kasey, Jaci, and Jodi, and was always there for them. He would tease them and would go into their rooms just to tease and laugh with them. Jackson really loved to watch TV, especially the sport channels, Channel 5 News and CNN News. In his younger years, he really enjoyed playing basketball. He liked listening to KLND Radio when Virgil Taken Alive was on. Jackson was a very thoughtful, caring, kind, and friendly man who went out of his way to help whoever needed help. Jackson thought and cared about all his nieces and nephews a lot, and every time his nieces and nephews came to his house, he was always happy to see them. Jackson liked reading his Bible, and watching his favorite church channel on Sundays. He believed in Jesus and accepted Jesus as his personal savior. He always said "Jesus is the only one who is gonna take me home to my daughter Kim in heaven". He will be greatly missed by his family, wife, mom, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and especially all his grandbabies. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen; mother, Seraphine Dogskin; three daughters, Kasey, Jacie, and Jodi; two adopted daughters, Shonte, and Tenia Defender; four grandchildren, Austin Dogskin, Kaden, Kimberly, and Jasmyn Yellow-Stone; three brothers, Verdell (Melody) Wolf Necklace, Jarvis and Ted Dogskin; three sisters, Debbie and Ardis Dogskin, and Brenda (Steve) Miller; and two friends, Chance Eagle and Franki Standing Bear.
