John Harley Lamontagne Obituary (1935 - 2012)

John Harley LaMontagne, 76, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Marian Manor, Glen Ullin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, October 19, 2012, at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with Fr. Jim Braaten, Fr. Marvin Klemmer, and Deacon Tony Finneman officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation is scheduled from 4-7:00 PM, with a rosary/prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM, Thursday October 18, 2012, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. John was born November 11, l935, at Detroit, Michigan, to Victor and Marie Antoinette (Vorassi) LaMontagne. He was raised and educated in Stephenson, Michigan where he graduated from high school. He earned a degree from Valley City State College. John served in the US Navy for 21 years. He worked as an Electricians Mate and worked his way to Chief Electricians Mate E-8. He also served as the Navy recruiter in Bismarck, where he met his future wife, Wanda Flanagan, whom he married on June 17, 1961, in Bismarck. John co-founded the Power Plant Technology Program at Bismarck State College. He was active throughout his life in the Boy Scouts organization, was a Deacon at the Church of the Ascension, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, Bismarck; three daughters, Catherine (Randal) Roberson, Williston, Theresa (Michael) Stockert, Bismarck, and Michelle (Christopher) Burcky, Arlington, Tennessee; three sons, John "Johnny", Bismarck, Robert (Anne) Roseville, Minnesota, and Gerald, Naknek Alaska; one brother, Victor (Louise) LaMontagne, Dade City, Florida; twelve grandchildren, Broc (Jennifer) Roberson, Miranda Roberson, Aaron, Ian, and Olivia LaMontagne, Dustin (Lynn) LaMontagne, Cole LaMontagne, Andrea (Nathan) Ybarra, Grant and Tiernan LaMontagne, Clair Burcky, and Tyler Higgins; four great-grandchildren, Kendal and Leighton Roberson, Isaiah and Preston LaMontagne; and two nieces, Victoria Lee and Tina Wetmore. John was preceded in death by his parents, Victor LaMontagne and Edward and Marie Antoinette Schafer, and son, Raymond. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Boy Scouts of America, or the Salvation Army.
