Lutivena Ustanko Obituary (1924

Lutivena "Lee" Ustanko, 98, Mandan, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at a local Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 - 7:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2022, with a Vigil/Rosary service beginning at 7:00 PM, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Lutivena was born January 23, 1924, at Linton, ND, to Joseph and Cecilia (Malsom) Feist. She was raised and educated in on a farm near Linton. She moved to Bismarck when she was in her late teens and worked at a Cafe called O'Brien's in downtown Bismarck as a dishwasher. It was there that she met a soldier named Joe Ustanko. After a few brief dates and with him heading to the military camp he asked her to marry him. They were married on October 26, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in North Dakota after Joe was released from the service. They raised 9 children and lived in many towns in ND traveling for construction and finally settling in Mandan in the late 60's. In addition to raising his family she enjoyed many fishing trips on the Heart River. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She had many quilts that were sold and mailed the US to family and friends. There other enjoyment was Bingo and going to the Casino. She enjoyed traveling on the Casino Bus until she was 97 and called it quits due to her declining eye site. She is survived by her children, Jerry (Myrna) Ustanko, Fargo, ND, Marty ( Lois) Ustanko, Grand Forks, ND, Danny (Joyce) Ustanko, Mundelien, IL, Patty (Rick) Blank, Mandan, Mary Jane (Glenn) Siewert, Bismarck, Tammy (Bill) Schmidt, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; 31+ great grandchildren: Eight great great grandchildren; sister Barbara (Bill) Werner,; sister-in-law Angie Feist; daughter-in-laws Betty Eslinger and Buffy Ustanko; and her special friends Diane Klein and Zyta. Lutivena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Helen, Veronica, Lizzy, and Leona; and brothers, Tony, Max and Raymond; sons, George, David, and James
