Matthew Wise Spirit

Matthew Wise Spirit, 43, Fort Yates, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 10, 2013, in the A.J. Agard Memorial Building, with Brother George Maufort officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 9-11:00 AM, prior to the service also in the A.J. Agard Memorial Building. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Porcupine, North Dakota. Matthew was born April 26, 1970, at Fort Yates, to Virgil and Sharon (Carry Moccasin) Wise Spirit Sr. He was raised and educated in Cannon Ball and graduated from Solen High School in 1989. He also attended United Tribes Technical College. Mathew loved playing and watching basketball. He was an avid Chicago Bulls fan, especially during the years Michael Jordan was playing. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his father, Virgil Wise Spirit Sr., Cannon Ball; his daughter, Sundae Red Bird; his son, M.J. Wise Spirit, both of Bismarck; three sisters, Lonnette (Jody Komenda) Wise Spirit, April (Bernard) Good Iron, all of Fort Yates, Bobbi Jo Wise Spirit, Bismarck; six brothers, Charles (Lindsey Eagle Horse) Wise Spirit, Mobridge, South Dakota, LaVoy Wise Spirit, Fort Yates, Lonnie Wise Spirit Jr., Bismarck, Preston (Randy Waln) Wise Spirit, Cannon Ball, Uriah Wise Spirit, Bismarck, and Didrick Wise Spirit, Cannon Ball; and grandson, Tommy Red Bird; nieces, Sydnee, Jesy, Mya, Sheridan, Lakoya, Belle, Jazlyn, Diamond, Ashley, JoElle, JoLynn, JoEtta, Kaylee, Cant, Kimimina, Rita; nephews, Jay, Kenya, Jr. Chaz, B.J.
