Michael D. Lord

Michael D. Lord, 81, Bismarck, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, June 6, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. There will be no visitation. A family committal service will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Michael was born August 3, 1934, in St. Paul, MN, to John and Lillian (Busian) Lord. He was raised and educated in St. Paul, MN and Mandan, ND. Michael graduated from Mandan high school in 1953. After graduation he served in the US Navy aboard mine sweepers from 1953 to 1957. He earned an accounting degree from BSC and started his career working for MDU for five years before becoming the 5th employee hired by Basin Electric. He continued his accounting career with Basin Electric for the next 32 years. On July 29, 1961, he and Shirley Nuss were married in Carson, ND; they had one son David. Michael was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was also very involved with the Boy Scouts and SCORE. Michael enjoyed traveling, his hobby of photography, having a good cup of coffee, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son David (Katherine) Lord, Carrollton, TX; one sister Mary (Bill) McAndrew, Fredericksburg, VA; one brother, John (Gladys) Lord, Conway, SC; brother-in-law, Bob (Mary Jo) Nuss; sister-in-law Angie Nuss; granddaughter Elizabeth, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, William (Loretta) Lord; James (Marian) Lord; and a brother-in-law, James Nuss.
