Oliver John Wahl Obituary (1918 - 2011)

Oliver John Wahl, 93, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at a Bismarck care center. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Visitation is scheduled for 5-7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2011, DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Oliver was born January 26, 1918, at Ashley, North Dakota, to John and Emilie (Rothfusz) Wahl. He was raised and educated in rural Ashley. He served in the US Army from 1942-45, in the 483rd and 816th Bombardment Squad, and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, MacDill Field, Florida, and Pisa, Italy. On May 17, 1943, he married Sarah Wagemann in Florida. Following the war, he returned to Ashley and worked for MDU, was a roofer, and a farmhand. In 1957, he and his family moved to Bismarck and he was a car salesman, and sold real estate. After working for several restaurant supply companies, he and Al Lang started Capital City Restaurant Supply where he worked until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Bismarck VFW, American Legion, Eagles, and Trinity Lutheran Church. Oliver enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Anton \u0027"Tony\u0027 Gross, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerome and Julie Wahl, Dickinson; one sister, Orpha Bertsch, Jamestown; six grandchildren, Stacy (Greg) Eider, Bismarck, Brian Wahl, Phoenix, Arizona, Jennifer (C.J.) Paluh, Bismarck, Jeffrey (Julie) Gross, Minot, Lisa Gross, and Deborah Gross, both of Bismarck; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, Ted and Alvin, sister, Viola Roeszler, great-grandson, Austin Gross-Weber; and brother-in-law, Herbert Bertsch. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Medcenter One, ER staff at St. Alexius, St. Alexius Hospice, and especially the Edgewood Vista for the loving care he received.
