Rodney Adam Kuhn
New Salem - Rodney Kuhn, 71, died July 29,2025, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. A private service and burial will be held.
Rodney was born on December 6, 1953, in Mandan, ND. The youngest of seven children, born to George and Elizabeth “Betty” (Schmidt) Kuhn. He was raised and lived in New Salem all his life. In 1973 he married Darnell Christianson. With this union, they had three children. Amber (Dion) Lauf, Crystal (Michael) Toepke, and Boe Kuhn.
Rodney worked at several places in New Salem, Rud Oil, Marshall Lumber, his own tape and texturing company, rural mail carrier, and finally at the New Salem butcher shop. He had many hobbies. In the fall, he loved to go hunting south of New Salem on the Duncan farm. Many butchering and family get togethers at the Darrell Kuhn farm. In the summer you would find him on a boat fishing. His kids, especially the girls, would cringe when opening the fridge. You were never sure what you would find…live bait, stinky fish, or jellied meat. He loved to garden, canning his fruits of his labor always having fresh cut flowers on the table. In his later years he enjoyed puzzles and was always an amazing cook.
Special thanks to the staff at Elm Crest Manor, especially his niece Kathy Bauer for always helping him with whatever he needed. He is survived by his children, Amber (Dion) Lauf their children Lanie and Cambrie Lauf; Crystal ( Micheal) Toepke their children Grace and Abby Toepke; Boe Kuhn and his children Gannon, Beckett, Andersen, and Blakely Kuhn; Brothers Arnie ( Loretta) Kuhn of Mandan, Darrell (LeAnn Rasmussen) Kuhn New Salem; Sisters Jeanette Henke, Glenwood MN, Arlene ( Arlon ) Weiss, and Carol Duncan of New Salem. Along with many nieces and nephews and a good friend Mike Hermanson.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Josh Kuhn, sister-in-law Doreen Kuhn, sister Judy Toepke, and brothers in law Darrel Henke, Rick Duncan, and Leonard Toepke.
