Roselyn P. Martinez Obituary (1943

Roselyn P. Martinez, 68, Cannon Ball, North Dakota, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 12, 2011, in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball, with The Rev. Canon John Floberg and Deacon Brandon Mauai officiating. A private burial will be in the Iron Bull Family Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 AM until time of service in the Youth Activity Center. Roselyn was born on March 24, 1943, at Cannon Ball, to Richard Martinez Sr. and Lillian Iron Bull. She was raised in Cannon Ball and graduated with honors from Standing Rock High School. Roselyn attended The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota; Standing Rock Community College; and Joliet Jr. College in Joliet, Illinois. She studied Anthropology. Roselyn spent 25 years in the Chicago metro area where she helped raise her nieces and nephews. She ran her own business doing janitorial work and house painting. She was also the personal assistant to Mrs. Boulard. Roselyn moved back to Cannon Ball in the early 90\u0027s to take care of her mother. At SRST, Roselyn worked for TWEP, she was a land classification specialist, a right-of-way technician and eventually hired to MR\u0026I. She was proud to be one of few American Indian women surveyors. She was a member of the North Dakota Land Surveyors Association. She loved her job. She had well-earned respect from co-workers, contractors, the tribe, and people in the community. She was dedicated and wanted to return to work as soon as possible. Roselyn loved to joke and make everyone around her laugh. She loved her family the most and would do anything for them. She told animated stories about her family and would glow with pride at the punch line. She helped a lot of people and took care of the details. One of her favorite sayings was \u0027"I\u0027m busy!\u0027 Roselyn loved to cook. She always wanted to make sure everyone ate. She made immediate and lasting impressions on everyone she met. She took Susan Reinhiller as a sister and Lew Warren as a brother. Roselyn is survived by three sisters, Margaret Correa, Fort Yates; Anna Martinez, Cannon Ball; and Charlotte (Woodrow) Star, Pendleton, Oregon; and one brother, Bobo Martinez, Cannon Ball. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Raphael (Linda) Cournoyer, Kim (Pat) Warren, Nicky (Alan) Subola, Chad Martinez, Carolina Correa, Susanna Escalante, Alyssa Martinez, Jones Iron Bull, Nevada Berger, Caron (Brandon) Ternes, Richard E. (Misty) Martinez, Deacon Terry Star, Biz (Michael) Manta, Richard P. (Leiloni) Star, Jesse (Tahlia) Star, Alyssa (Jamarr) Braizaele and Carlisle Star, Leon F. Martinez, Michael Martinez, Bethany (Marlin) Lawrence, Connie (Ronnie) Guerero. Also survived by very special grand-nieces and nephews, Chase Warren, Chayla Warren, Wolfen (Aisha) Cournoyer, De\u0027Edra Brannom, Vincent (Brooke) Batt, Audia Batt, Sebastian Subola, Adele Subola, Landi Leingang, Brooke Martinez, Martin Martinez, Robert Martinez, Phoenix Martinez, Karen Martinez, Shaylene Martinez, Trista Martinez, Slade Martinez, Margaret R.
