He complete heavy equipment school in Gary Indiana. On May 1, 1970, in San Francisco, California, he was appointed Corporal 2nd Battalion, First Maries Division. In November 1984 at UTTC, he started working as a men's dorm counselor and was moved onto Security Officer. On July 1, 1988, he graduated from law enforcement training academy and ended as a Security Supervisor in April 1990. After UTTC he began working at various construction companies as a heavy equipment operator in Bismarck and surrounding areas until August of 1992. He then started work for Standing Rock Health System as an ambulance driver, moved on to Standing Rock Housing Authority, and ended at the BIA Roads Department as a heavy equipment operator. In January of 1994, he started working at the BIA Facilities Management until 2000.
He would always greet his kids and grandchildren with a hug, kiss, and an "I love you." All with a big smile on his face with anyone who visited with him. There was a story about any topic that was discussed because of his many experiences in life. He was supportive, loving, and caring for all who were in his life. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, fishing, and especially listening to his oldies but goodies music. He had two marriages during his lifetime. The first to Karen Wise Sprit and the second to Bernadine Standing Bear. Dad, you will be dearly missed by all who had the exciting chance to share your experiences with you.
He is survived by two daughters, Kim Redbow, and Deborah (Dewey) Plenty Chief, all of Cannon Ball; one sister, Gladys See Walker, Solen; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Steven.
