Sophie Rose Bear Stops Obituary (1987

Sophie Bear Stops, 27, Fort Yates, North Dakota, died August 9, 2015, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2015, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, ND. A wake service begins at 5:00PM, Friday, August 14, 2015, in the AJ Agard Memorial Building, Fort Yates, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Yates. Sophie was born September 5, 1987, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to Tamara Moore and stepfather, Timothy High Elk. She was raised and educated in Fort Yates and Bismarck, as well Anadarko, Oklahoma, were she graduated from Riverside Indian School in 2006. Sophie also attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck. Sophie worked at Prairie Knights Casino and Lodge, Family Dollar, Diamond Z, Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Maintenance Department, and the Elderly Nutrition Program. In high school, she participated in basketball, cross country, as well as tutoring, and pep club. Sophie took pride in her two beautiful children Mia and Jay. She loved spending time with them; taking them to the park, swimming, shopping, and attending their school activities. She had a love for horses and enjoyed betting and watching sports with her cousins. She liked to bet on horse racing, her horse always won! She loved doing her hair, make up and dressing up. She loved her daughter's horse "Pretty". She loved spending time on Facebook talking to her friends and posting selfies. She also enjoyed helping her mother in the kitchen, catering, and making burritos. She helped anyone anyway she could. She had a good heart, was very kind and appreciative, and was thankful for everything. She loved that she was saved and loved "the Lord her Savior". She loved cleaning and listening to Jason Alden and Kenny Chesney. She was a hard worker and always gave 100% in whatever she did. She is survived by her parent; daughter Maria Bear Stops; son Jeremiah Bear Stops; and sister Kimberly (Steven) Moore; all of Fort Yates; brothers, Patrick (Courtney) Moore, Mesa, Arizona, Brandon (Crystal) Bear Stops, Talihina, Oklahoma; uncles, Buster (Dawn), Sam (Terri), Ray (Cynthia) and Kelly (Stacey) Moore; aunts Anita, Lisa, Micky, and Jodi; special niece who she had a hand in raising, Kathy Moore; grandfather, Ramanus Bear Stops, Tiospaye Red, Scaffold, South Dakota; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Brenda Red horn, Jojo Eagle, and 2006 Classmates and Coaches of Riverside Indian School. Sophie was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Edward and Ella Mae Moore, and Naomi Abbott; paternal grandparent, Catherine Circlebear; aunts, Rosie and Audrey; cousins Shannon, Ryan, Michael, and Donte'.
