Taran Joseph Fox, 20, Fort Yates, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. A viewing begins at 5:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2017, with Services at 11:00 AM, Sunday, March 5, 2017, in White Shield School, White Shield, North Dakota, with Rev. Duane Fox officiating. A wake service begins at 5:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 5, 2017, in the AJ Agard Memorial Building, Fort Yates. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 6, 2017, with Brother George Maufort and Rev. Elliot Ward officiating, also in the AJ Agard Memorial Building. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Yates. Taran was born November 17, 1996, in Bismarck, to Clair Fox and Tabitha Silk. He was raised and educated in Fort Yates, and graduated from Standing Rock High School in 2015. During high school, he participated in basketball, football, and golf. He worked with the youth and coached basketball, football and hand games. He was very culturally oriented, and sang and danced at powwows. Taran was a member of the Dead Grass Society of White Shield, and loved his Arikara ways. He was given the rights by the society to dance the original grass dance and sit at the drum to learn all the Arikara songs to sing and share. His Grandpa Rodney Howling Wolf and Grandpa Keith Fox Sr. gave him the Indian name Noisy Bear which was passed down to Taran from his late uncle Julian "Goose" Fox. Taran carried his Indian name with great pride and honor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and could sing almost anything. Taran worked at The Enemy Swim Day School in Waubay, South Dakota. He is survived by his mother, Tabitha Silk, Fort Yates; his father, Clair (BJ) Fox, White Shield; grandparents, Duane Silk and Melody Azure, both of Fort Yates; four sisters, Marilyn Fox, Raylene Fox, Phoenix Baker, and Sophie Fox; five brothers, Dayne Abbey, Brandon Fox, Tanner Fox, Saunders Young Bird, and Brand White Eyes; Godparents, Bryan Bald Eagle and Debra Martin; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends, classmates, and students. Taran was preceded in death by his grandparents, Keith and Laura Fox; great-grandparents, Charles Silk and Gladys Two Horses, John, and Genevieve (Allery) Azure; three uncles, Keith Fox Jr., Julian "Goose" Fox, and Charles "Chuck" Silk; and aunt, Odette Swift Horse.
