Terhold Hegney Obituary (1946 - 2015)

Terhold D. Hegney, 68, Mandan, ND, left this world, to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, after 18 month battle with esophageal cancer. From dust man came, and unto dust he shall return. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, April 17, 2015, at the American Legion Hall, Butte, ND. Please join us in giving him honor and tribute. A private family burial will follow after the service in Kief Cemetery. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Terry was born June 9, 1946, at Harvey, ND, to Dewey and Faith (Pister) Hegney. He was raised in the Butte-Kief area and graduated from Butte High School in 1964. Being a strong bodied man, he worked endlessly for others to show gratitude, loyalty, and honor. He married Shirley Hanson of Ruso, ND in 1965. They moved to California, where Terry joined the Carpenters Union of Northern California and later the Carpenters Union Local 1091of ND. They traveled with the Peter Kiewit Construction. Terry helped build the Chief Joe Dam over the Columbia River, near Bridgeport, WA, and many bridges and over passes in Oregon and Northern California. Shirley passed away in 1986. Later, he married Sharyn Clark and adopted and raised Brittney for six years. In 1999, he met Deborah (Schwan) of Minot, ND at Bible Study. They married at Maui, HI in 2004, and lived in Citrus Heights, and Hemet, CA. After 10 years out West, they decided to retire at the family farm, near Kief, where they raised alpacas, cows, and chickens. Terry enjoyed fishing, and helping others with haying, cattle, shearing, and socializing. He dearly loved the Butte Senior Citizens meetings, playing pinochle, and cooking up a meal for them. He and Debbi moved to Mandan so he could be treated daily for cancer. He and his beloved cousin and pinochle buddy, Kenny Doll, also a cancer survivor from Bismarck, won 5th place in the big Bismarck Cancer Center Pinochle Tournament last year. May those whose lives he touched with his laughter, hospitality, kindness, wit and humor, remember him always. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, Mandan; two sons; Dean (Svetlana) Hegney, Boulder, Colorado, and Darin (Michele) Hegney, Las Vegas, NV. His surviving siblings all reside in North Dakota; Roy (Debbie) Hegney Williston; Jerry (Mary) Hegney, Fargo, Ken (Alvina) Hegney, Bergen; and sister Carol (Delwayne) Herr, Burlington. Terry dearly loved his three grandchildren (Dean's) Massimo and Chantelle, and (Darin's) Christian. He is also survived by his adopted daughter, Brittney Hegney, of NC; and two step-sons, Alex Schwan, Minot, and Sgt. Anton Schwan, USMC, Stockton, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dewey and Faith Hegney; his youngest brother, Dewey Bill Hegney; and his first wife, Shirley Hanson.
