Wilbur Lawrence Pleets Obituary (1937

Wilbur Lawrence Pleets, 79, Mandan, North Dakota, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, in his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM, Monday, April 3, 2017, in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, North Dakota, with Bro. George Maufort officiating. A wake service is scheduled for 5:00 PM, Sunday, April 2, 2017, in the AJ Agard Memorial Building. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Wilbur was born October 15, 1937, in Fort Yates, to Walter and Agatha (Buffalo Boy) Pleets. He was raised and educated in Fort Yates and graduated from Fort Yates High School. Following high school, he served in the US Air Force. He attended Haskell Indian Nations University, and earned a Master's Degree from UND. Wilbur worked for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for over 30 years reviewing contracts and grants. He married Lois Siegfried. He played basketball and was a member of the 1956 Fort Yates State Class B Champions. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, attending and participating in rodeos as a bull rider, and running in 5K marathons. He was a lifetime Sundancer and participated in any INIPI's. He is survived by two daughters, Terri Tree Top and Laura Pleets, both of Fort Yates; two sons, Lawrence Pleets, Mandan, and Lydell Pleets, Fort Yates; two sisters, Jeannette Bailey, Fort Yates, and Leta (Jim) Davis, Rolette, North Dakota; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; godchildren, Jordon Rainbow, and Margeaux Walking Elk, Austin Agard, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Lavern, Quentin, and Ivan; and five sisters, Helen, Henrietta, Antoinette, Irene, and Ivy.
